Website Promotion SEO Step 1: Keyword Research
G’day Out there,
I hope all is well with you. I will now expand on the first and most important step of website promotion through Search Engine Optimization, which is keyword research.
Now with this blog I am assuming you have a business and/or website and are wanting more traffic for it, if not here is a fabulous tool for finding the best domain names, and it doesn’t cost a cent, it also has a brilliant feature that finds available aged domains which will help you with your SEO efforts (this feature is part of an upgrade offer). However hold off a bit, I still think it is best to start with keyword research for the business, niche or market you are in and then find the domain name if you haven’t got one already. Once you have this info your website promotional efforts are a long way ahead of most of the people who want to make a fast buck but never do.
Again it really is basic when you boil it down, but if you haven’t got your heart in it it is painfully boring (I know I fell asleep a few time going through the process).
1. The first thing you need is a keyword or phrase that people are actually searching for! I told you it wasn’t rocket science. This is known as search volume.
2. Then consider the level of competition for the keyword or phrase (the lower the better, while still having good search volume).
3. You need to have some idea whether people who search for that keyword or phrase take their wallets out and buy things (commercial intent)
How on earth do I find out all that info? Is that your question, well if it is, well done, it is a good one.
The internet has made finding this information very easy and inexpensive. You can go to Clickbank and it actually tells you what people are buying, you can analyse Pay Per Click (PPC) results if you use this, look at your log/stats from your website, it tells you how people are finding your site. You may unearth some you hadn’t thought of.
You can analyse your competitors websites and find what words they are being successful with and then adapt them to your advertising. The best tool for this I have found is Keyword Spy, they have a free trial. I highly recommend it.
Actually it is easier for me to show you, what I mean, take a look at the video below, it is one of the best introductions to keyword research I have seen. It comes from my friends at Market Samurai (my secret weapon in finding the best keywords and analysing competition and commercial intent). Enjoy (take notes).
If you want find out more about Market Samurai then visit their website and grab a free trial of the best keyword tool available.
That is enough for now. Keep smiling.
All the best,
Geoff
